Book Review: Prince Charming by Rachel Hawkins | Royalty, Scottish Highlands & Rakish Princes

Prince Charming (aka Royals) was a delightful read. It was funny, light and downright amusing. Daisy is American born of British parents, she’s lived a fairly quiet and normal life until her older sister Eleanor Winters gets engaged to Crown Prince Alexander of Scotland. When her boyfriend tries to sell her pictures to a tabloid magazine, she founds herself in Scotland with a royal handler trying to mould her reputations and character into something befitting and in-law of the royal family.

There are moments of awe and incredulity that left me cackling, moments of hilarity that made me lol and moments of excruciating slow burn-ness that made me want to scream “JUST HOLD HANDS ALREADY!!!” I need more enemies to fake dating to lovers in my life because this is an elite trope.

Despite the craziness and rigid control of the royal family, Alex and Ellie are very much in love with each other. Seb, the younger wreckfish brother is a disaster and nothing like the eligible bachelor the tabloids make him out to be. Then there’s Miles, the normal, aloof best friend who gets off on the wrong foot with Daisy and they immediately become enemies (of sorts).

There are horse races and ridiculous hats, glittering balls and quiet pubs in the rain, ice queens and dapper, moody boys. Daisy’s perception of the royal family is quickly shattered when she meets them and realises things are not always as they seem.

Idk about everyone else but does anyone get a little uncomfortable when they’re reading about royalty in the 21st century or is it just me? Is this what having a guilty pleasure feels like?
