I slack so much when it comes to book series. I’ll love the entire thing and if I can’t get hold of the book immediately then it gets lost in the chaos that is my brain-shelf of books I need to read.
Whisper of the Tide (Song of the Current #2) by Sarah Tolcser
Songs of the Current is one of my favourite pirate books. It features Caroline, a biracial girl who accidentally becomes a pirate while trying to free her father from jail by delivering a box he refused to deliver. This book has sentient rivers, a helpless prince who can’t do anything but look good while carrying two swords and a delicious hate to love; basically, it’s everything and I don’t know why I haven’t read the second instalment yet.

Champion (Legend #3) by Marie Lu
I read maybe 20% of this and had to return the book (it was the entire trilogy in one). Sometimes reading a book series in its’ entirety becomes a drag. There are a few series that I’ll happily gobble up after each book (All For The Game comes to mind) but this wasn’t one of them. It’s a great story and I want to get back into it especially now that the fourth book has come out.
Wildcard (Warcross #2) by Marie Lu
I read Warcross in 2017 and it immediately became my favourite book. My GoodReads review is starts with “So when is the next book coming out 😱?” and I can’t tell you why I haven’t gotten around to reading something I was very excited for. Most reviews of this book are negative but I still want to and am going to read it. At some point. Obviously. Just not now.
Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo (The Shadow and Bone Trilogy #3)
This is a popular YA favourite and I read it out of curiosity. I loved the first book well enough to continue with the series. Unfortunately, Seige and Storm (#2) was a letdown. It didn’t hold my attention and interest like the first book did. The main character became increasingly annoying and pretty much know how it ends. But I’d still like to read the last book. Maybe sometime.
Her Royal Highness (Royals #2) by Rachel Hawkins
I recently read Prince Charming (#1) and absolutely loved it. It’s everything I love about contemporary novels wrapped into one book. It’s enemies to fake dating to lovers which is an elite, unchallenged trope. There are horse races and ridiculous hats, glittering balls and quiet pubs in the rain, ice queens and dapper, moody boys. Her Royal Highness promises the same but it’s f/f!!!

Stalking Darkness (Nightrunner #2) by Lynn Flewelling
Luck in the Shadows is one of those books I found being recommended at every turn and when I eventually got around to reading it I loved it. It’s the type of fantasy that I love – I’m not sure what the specific subgenre is called. It’s adventure enough for me to get lost in but not too complicated to get lost while reading it. I find that I prefer fantasy that’s a little low (???), that’s doesn’t have confusing magic systems, classes and worldbuilding.
Eternal Dawn (Vampire Queen #3) by Rebecca Maizel
This is my favourite vampire series. I thought it was better than Twilight and I loved Twilight. I haven’t read this because my library only had the first two books at the time and I just sort of forgot about me. Maybe I won’t enjoy it as much as teenaged me did but that’s a risk I’m willing to take.
Looking forward to reading your thoughts on Marie Lu’s books & and the finale the to the Grisha trilogy ! Also, I’ve never heard of Rebecca Maizel, but a favorite vampire book? That’s awesome! Would you recommend that series? I don’t read many vampire books!! 💞

Unless the series really grips me I have terrible follow through. I’m still trying to finish the illuminae files trilogy. I’m actually on the final book but I read the first two a few months ago. I ended up completely giving up on one series because it wasn’t gripping me. The worst feeling is when you’ve started a good series and have to wait for the next book to come out!

That’s the worst!! I’m still waiting for a book 3 that was supposed to be released earlier this year but must have gotten cancelled somehow as the author has gone radio silent

Great post Sakhile! One series off the top of my head that I want to continue is The Raging Ones, I’m not even sure what book 2 is called but I really liked the first one (it’s M/M possibly m/m/f? i’m not sure what it’ll end up like), but I still haven’t gotten around to it.
On another note, I’m so glad to see you liked the first Nightrunner book! I found it at a used book store yesterday and bought it, I don’t know when I’ll be able to read it because it intimidates me a bit, but seeing you liked it makes me want to pick it up sooner (as soon as I’m over my mdzs obsession ahaha) ♥

I mostly finished the Grisha Trilogy because I knew it crossed over a bit with Six of Crows duology 🤷🏻♀️ it did take me longer to finish Grisha Trilogy than Six of Crows. I haven’t finished The Raven Cycle yet, somewhere there by the second or third book. Song of the Current looks good!!

I want to finish the Grisha trilogy so that I can read King of Scars. The Song of the Current is amazing, one of my faves!
