Books I Want To Read But Don’t Want To Read

So this is basically books that I want to read simply so I can stop suffering from FOMO but I also don’t really want to read them.

I saw this tag on Ngọc from ReadWithNgọc and I thought it would be a fun tag to do. It was created by Jamieson at Jamishelves so check their posts out.

A book that you feel you need to read because everyone talks about it

The Raven Boys

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

I feel like every single person I’ve ever talked to on the internet about books has read this book.

A book that’s really long

The Priory of the Orange Tree

The Priory of The Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

Everyone’s hype about this book right now but honestly seeing the size of it makes me apprehensive. This book is 800+ pages!

A book you’ve owned/had on your TBR for too long

Eternal Dawn

Eternal Dawn by Rebecca Maizel

The last book in the Vampire Queen series.  I read the first two books a hundred years ago and I was so taken with them. I became full-blown obsessed and now I’m worried that if 25 year old me reads it, she’ll hate it and wonder what was wrong with high school Sakhile.

A book that is ‘required’ reading
(eg, school text, really popular classic – something you feel obligated to read!)

Throne of Glass

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Not a classic but a very popular book. Like The Raven Boys I feel like everyone else but me has read this and there are too many books in it for me to start it now and I’m kinda over my fantasy era.

A book that intimidates you

Red Rising

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

This has been on my shelf forever but –

A book that you think might be slow

The Selection

The Selection by Kiera Cass

Every time I clear out my TBR on goodreads I always leave this book in but I think it’s time for it to go. It sounds interesting but why are there so many books in the series unless it’s slow af.

A book you need to be in the right mood for

A List of Cages

A List of Cages by Robin Roe

It’s the kind of book that you need to have a backup for, like when you watch a scary movie at night and then watch cartoons immediately after.

A book you’re unsure if you will like

Red Queen

The Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard

I’ve become picky with my fantasy novels. I don’t enjoy the same things that I used to and I honestly can’t stand series that are more than 3 books. I usually give up on no.2. Not sure how I managed to read Harry Potter.

  1. Thank you for the tag lovely!!! Lol Throne of Glass does seem like a required reading so that you end up in the love or hate it group haha. I am reading the Priory of the Orange Tree at the moment, and the hype is very much warranted, it is so freaking good. I tried the Red Queen and hated it so DNF’d, but there has been so much hype for it. Great answers love!!

    1. The Priory of the Orange Tree is scary big. I’m worried I won’t have the commitment to get through it. I know how much you love Throne of Glass and I get what you mean by everyone who’s read either loving it or hating it.

  2. Thank you for the tag Sakhile!! Omg Red Rising intimidates me too and I don’t know why! I’ve read longer books and bigger series, but this one just freaks me out for some reason idk. ughhhhhh throne of glass. honestly I don’t know if its worth it to read the series. book 1, 2, 3, are pretty good, 4, 5, are crap, 6 is only ok, and 7 was pretty awesome — if I hadn’t started it years ago, I wouldn’t even care about it lol
omg the raven boys pisses me off. I love book 1, 2, 3 but the last book was so bad! I want to sue Maggie Stiefvater. speaking of Maggie, she really sucks as a person and I don’t even want to support her books anymore even though her next series is about my fave character. im stressed.
but if you get the chance please read the priory of the orange tree!! it’s so freaking good, I was glued to the page! 800 pages went by so quickly!

  3. I loved Red Queen, but the series went sideways for me, and I stopped after book 2. I am a HUGE Raven Boys and ToG fan though. I read all The Selection books too (very good). I keep meaning to read A List of Cages, but I fear how emotional it is.

  4. Red Rising has been on my shelf forever too! For some reasons I keep putting it off. The Selection was an alright read for me but honestly there are other books more deserving of your time haha.

  5. Oh I LOVE The Raven Boys. The series is strange but very well-written and the characters are fantastic. I hope you give it a chance! I briefly heard about the Priory of the Orange Tree but I didn’t know it was that long. I was already hesitant to read it myself, but not sure if I’d be able to make it through all that right now lol. ToG is definitely considered required reading for fantasy fans but I’m also slowly making my way through the series. I’ve heard so many mixed reviews on it that I’m unsure if I’ll even finish it haha. A List of Cages is a wonderful book, but I think you’re right. A backup is definitely needed by the end. And I liked Red Queen at first but I haven’t made it through the second book. It’s been about two years…So, I hope that if you read any of these that you end up enjoying some or all of them. Wonderful post! 😀

    1. The Raven Boys is definitely something I’ll consider. I’ve heard nothing but amazing reviews of The Priory of the Orange Tree but I’m still skeptical because it’s so huge and I might not finish it.

      1. Yeah, Priory does seem like an investment, but sounds like it may be worth it in the end. If you do pick it up someday, I hope you really enjoy it 😀
